Boundaries

March 2023

MONTHLY TOPIC FOR SUPPORTERS

As a supporter of someone living with Lyme, it may seem like you're always adapting to new boundaries. Because you don't feel their symptoms in your body, what is being requested of you may not always make sense to you. It takes courage for people to ask for what they need, especially when what is needed feels like unusual accommodations. Meeting them with a willing, respectful response reinforces that it is safe to keep doing so.

Many of us aren't encouraged to explore boundaries, but giving that encouragement can be a way to show love and compassion. Sharing your boundaries with others helps to set clear expectations. It demonstrates that they are free to take care of themselves by discovering their own boundaries, too.

Time taken to discover how boundaries can benefit you and others around you is time well spent. Ultimately, you may find you can't meet every need of the Lyme patient in your life but can be more fully present in what you are able to do for & with them.

This month at Generation Lyme, we are holding space to talk about whatever boundaries mean to you.
