Amanda’s Story

Amanda, Lyme Coach & Advocate

“Even though I have reached remission from Lyme disease, I know what it is like to struggle with it.

For eighteen years, the struggle of undiagnosed Lyme disease consumed my life. I know what it is like to wake up feeling pain through my whole body and to not understand why. I know what it is like to wake up in a pool of sweat and shortness of breath. Heart palpitations. Being bed-bound. Brain fog. That was REALLY hard. My family was struggling with this, too. Then the diagnosis of Lyme came for all of us.

To lay down at night thinking that this is what my life is now—all of us sick, in pain, struggling to feel well—was heartbreaking. The financial hardship of this disease was crushing us, too.

It got so bad that at one point our son woke up hitting his chest because he couldn't breathe. He was having an allergic reaction to one of the antibiotics. Yes, I know how awful this disease is.

That was ten years ago.

Once we found the treatments that were right for us, we were able to get to remission. I documented our journey closely, went to school to earn the credentials needed to be able to serve others in the Lyme community with their healing, and made this service my life's work.

I go to bed at night thinking about how amazing life is now, feeling gratitude that we are on the other side of Lyme.”
