Nicole’s Story

Nicole, Wife, Mom & Lyme Warrior

“It started with a simple weekend watching my niece play soccer at Penn State in September 2015. By the time we got home, I was in crisis—chills, body aches, chest pain. I thought it was the flu. I had no idea it was the beginning of a ten-year journey I never saw coming. The Western blot finally confirmed Lyme disease, and I thought I'd have answers. But a diagnosis isn't a cure. I cycled through antibiotics that didn't work, watched my body transform, and learned that looking “fine” while feeling like you're dying inside is the loneliest kind of battle. Then came CIRS—Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome. Just when I thought I was getting somewhere with Lyme, mold in our home sent me spiraling. I obsessed over every trigger, every toxin, trying to control everything around me instead of focusing on building my own resilience.

I used to be the strong one. The caretaker. The woman who had it all together. Chronic illness stripped that away and forced me to find a different kind of strength—one that shows up even through brain fog, numbness, and crushing exhaustion.

So if you're in the thick of it right now, battling Lyme, CIRS, or any invisible illness, please know, you're not alone. Your pain is real. Your struggle matters. Hope is possible—resilient, hard-won, hope.”
